Frequently asked questions
- What trim sizes does Amazon KDP support for coloring books?
- KDP supports 6 standard trim sizes for paperbacks: 5" x 8", 5.5" x 8.5", 6" x 9", 8" x 10", 8.5" x 8.5" (square), and 8.5" x 11". The most popular size for coloring books is 8.5" x 11" because it gives colorists the most space to work with.
- What is bleed and do I need it for my coloring book?
- Bleed is an extra 0.125 inches added to each edge of your page. You need bleed if your designs extend to the page edge (full-bleed). If your designs have a white border around them, you can submit without bleed. KDP recommends including bleed for professional results.
- How is spine width calculated for KDP books?
- Spine width depends on page count and paper type. For white paper: page count x 0.002252 inches. For cream paper: page count x 0.0025 inches. A 100-page coloring book on white paper has a spine width of about 0.23 inches.
- What DPI should my coloring book interior be?
- Amazon KDP requires 300 DPI for all interior pages. Your images must be at least 300 pixels per inch at the final trim size. For an 8.5" x 11" page, that means at least 2550 x 3300 pixels.
